Strange Records is a quiet, dark-archive publication for true strange events — historical mysteries, unexplained disappearances, creepy real places, and the lives of unusual people. We write slowly, and only about things that actually happened.
Every file is reported from the record: sheriff's reports, court transcripts, contemporary press, named books, and the archives of the places involved. Where a fact can't be verified, we say so. We don't invent victims, suspects, confessions, or endings. If a case is unsolved, the file stays open.
Teaser entries marked file pending are placeholders for future files — they carry a title and a hook, nothing more, and no facts are attached to them until they are researched.
The first file on record is the Villisca axe murders, Villisca, Iowa, June 1912. Eight people died in one house in a single night. The case has never been solved.
